Richard Ladkani

Richard Ladkani is an award-winning Austrian director and cinematographer. He gained most of his early experience in NYC, where he worked and lived for more than six years before moving to Munich, Germany in 2002.

His dual approach as director and cinematographer has given his films a special handwriting, which has earned him international recognition.

His most renowned films include "Escape over the Himalayas", "The Devil's Miner", "Jane's Journey", "Vatican - The Hidden World" and "Gas Monopoly" which all garnered him a great number of awards at prestigious film festivals around the world.

Since 2014 Richard has been working on the investigative thriller-doc "The Ivory Game", a Netflix Original by Executive Producer Leonardo DiCaprio, produced by Terra Mater & Vulcan Productions in association with DiCaprio's Appian Way and Malaika Pictures.

The film had its world premier at the prestigious Telluride Film Festival soon followed by the Toronto Film Festival, won the Cinema for Peace Award and was shortlisted for the Oscars in 2017.

In early 2015 Richard and his wife Anita Ladkani founded Malaika Pictures, to produce films that shine a bright spotlight on the most pressing environmental and political issues that face our world today.

The latest project in development is a scripted feature film based on the bestselling book "City of Thorns" as well as a number of documentaries.
